The Customer

Kaiser Solutions

The Lusongce luxury residential project in Korea’s Gangwon Province, a sought-after getaway destination, spans an impressive 86,000㎡, boasting 60 premium condominiums, a community center, pool, and gallery. The exclusive development was designed for a high-end customer base.

Home Automation System: ABB Home

HVAC System \ IDUs: Samsung VRF \ 640

Solutions: CoolMaster Devices, Control App, KNX Integration

The Challenge

With a high-end clientele that expects high-quality climate control, the Mona Yong Pyong resort contacted Kaiser Solutions, leading Korean home automation specialists, to manage the ABB home automation system installation and integrate it with Samsung VRF systems.

This presented a distinct challenge, as most KNX-based integration solutions require a dedicated board for each indoor unit, complicating the installation process and increasing the number of potential failure points. Kaiser sought a superior alternative. Ideally, this solution would enable a simple, dependable integration as well as help satisfy expectations for advanced HVAC control capabilities.

The Solution

CoolAutomation supplied Kaiser, KNX integrator, with 60 CoolMaster LT integration devices, which served as a plug-and-play, single integration point solution for controlling all Samsung VRF indoor units through the home automation system. In addition, residents were given access to CoolAutomation’s intuitive IoC Control App, empowering them to manage their house’s climate conditions from anywhere, anytime, via a mobile or desktop device.

The Traditional Course of Action
1
Electrical contractors handle pre-installation work.
2
HVAC systems are installed.
3
Each HVAC indoor unit is connected to a dedicated KNX adaptor.
4
The separate KNX adaptors are connected to the central KNX controller\ KNX network, which involves extensive, complex wiring.
5
Each connection must be separately tested and verified.
6
If any HVAC function isn’t working as expected, an on-site HVAC professional is required.
7
Integrators must make multiple site visits until issues are fully resolved.
The CoolAutomation Way
1
Electrical contractors handle pre-installation work.
2
HVAC systems are installed, and a single VRF communication cable is run to the AV rack.
3
A CoolMaster is installed in the AV rack. It is connected to the KNX central controller and power supply as a standard KNX device.
4
The CoolMaster automatically detects all HVAC units and provides information on their status via a built-in touch screen.
5
If any HVAC function isn’t working as expected, the CoolMaster helps diagnose the problem quickly and accurately, with continuous remote support by CoolAutomation experts.
6
Should an HVAC expert be needed, detailed system information can be accessed remotely, eliminating the need for multiple site visits.
